Lake Tegano Mapping and Conservation Project
Lake Tegano Mapping and Conservation Project
Rennell island is the largest raised coral atoll in the world and a major feature of the island is Lake Tegano, a former lagoon on the atoll. The lake is the largest in the insular Pacific and it is a haven for many endemic species. The site is customary owned and the local populace are interested to preserve the naturalness of the environment. To help with the management of the site, the project aims to do mapping and conserving of the mangrove forests along the shoreline of the world heritage site, recording biodiversity within and around the mangrove plantations and to provide sufficient awareness information to the populace.
