Malae Sea Wall
Malae Sea Wall
The proposed project purposely is to build a seawall along the sea line coast of the Malae Community to protect further destruction from the rising sea level, king tides and king waves. There is no way to relocate further inland since the inner land is put aside for gardening. The only possible solution is to build a seawall along the sea line coast so that people can continue to live their lives normally maybe for the next 10 to 20 years or so.

Project Characteristics and Results
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The Duff people are indigenous sea voyaging people who have settled in this very remote areas of the Pacific and Solomon Islands as a country. There distance from Honiara, makes it difficult as it is uneconomically for boats to service those sea routs, as there is total lack of cash income in the Islands. The project will expose these unknown indigenous group to the world and the country when livelihood improvement, information and hopefully economic activities are developed after the project is established.
Notable Community Participation
The Malae Climate Change project is the Cry of the whole community of Duff Islanders to protect their shoreline from the impact of King tides, sea level rise which is eroding their shore line to the extend that is threatening their community. The island is small, with being located in the most remote part of the country, community were totally helpless until they heard of the GEF Small Grants Programmes which they then formally established their Association to find mean by which they could safe their homes. The initial discussion was that there is no way they can relocate to another part of the islands as that would destroy the only arable area for their food gardens. The decision was done by the whole community including, elders both men and women, the Youths and children of Malae, Duff Islands Temotu Province.
