Battery Charging Services Using Solar Battery Charging Stations
The project aims at reducing environmental pressure and green house gas emissions by introducing solar battery charging services that will reduce the use of paraffin, disposable batteries and small petrol generators. Furthermore, the project will help in the dissemination of information on renewable energy by promoting a renewable energy technology that up to now has little exposure in Botswana, which if proved to be successful may be replicated in other villages. Moreover, it will support activities to lower perception barriers of the operators and users, and reduce technical barriers. Twelve Solar Battery Charging Stations (SBCS) will be made available shop owners, Village Development Committees, Non-Governmental Organisations and Community Based Organisations in rural villages that are not connected to the mains electric grid.

Replication of project activities
Thereare other villages in Botswana with similar needs and situation. SIB has already been approached by other CBOs and NGOs to replicate the project.
Policy Influence
This project could be used as an example of a successfully designed and implemented project in solar technology. The project could also be used to guide policy that will enable replication of similar technology on other projects.
