Although the original project activities were changed to overcome the unforeseen difficulties the main objectives of the project were successfully achieved. The aim of the project was accomplished by implementing 32 Solar Home Systems in Moshaneng village. In implementing the 32 SHS in Moshaneng village, it has reduced environmental pressure and green house gases emissions by means of introducing solar technology. It also reduced the use of paraffin, disposable batteries and small petrol generators. Furthermore, the project has helped with the dissemination of renewable energy by promoting a renewable energy technology which up to now has limited exposure in Botswana, which if proved to be successful may be replicated in other villages. Furthermore, awareness about sources and applications of renewable energy have been raised.

Moshaneng is considered one of the most disadvantaged villages in Botswana with a majority of the population consisting of the elderly and children. A major problem in rural areas is the lack of electricity, which results in a limited period of daylight during which productive and leisure activities can take place and high cost of dry cells for powering radios and other appliances. Although the Government of Botswana has put tremendous efforts in electrifying rural areas over the past years, many villages and dwellings are not connected to the electrical grid, and therefore the lighting options are currently limited to candles, parrafin lamps and torches. The only electric energy resource available for powering lights, radios and tvs are car batteries that are charged in villages that are connected to the mains electric grid.

Furthermore, candles and paraffin lamps produce low quality light, which makes it difficult for children to study and for their parents to read and work. Also, these applications have health hazards. Wax and paraffin fumes have a serious effect on health, especially that of young children, and there are risks of fires, with candles and paraffin lambs left unattended. Finally there is high recurrent cost associated with the use of candles, paraffin, dry cells and charging batteries. Therefore this project has had a direct benefit on the health and safety of the community as well as of the most appreciated benefits for the community; the savings from not having to buy paraffin and candles.

Some of the most valuable benefits of the solar electrification in Moshaneng include raising the living standards of the people in the community. This allows them to to get integrated into the rest of Botswana community, and for children to study and get better opportunities in life. The same as enabling them to use modern communication technology and get connected to the rest of the world. Other benefits are the promotion of clean energy and overcoming of the technical barriers as solar technology will be better understood and easily accessible.
