Biological resources protection in the North Suwalki
The main aim of the project is protection of biodiversity in rural areas through reconstruction of old traditional domestic orchads and gardens.
Inventory of old varieties of apple trees in old domestic orchads in very poor condition in Suwalki Landscape Park and its buffer zone was done together with Dr M.Dziubiak, expert pomolog from Warsaw.
Sustinability of this long-term project will be secure by 2 nurseries and collection of old varieties of fruit tree collected locally which were established in Suwalki Landscape Park HQ in Turtul and in village Lipniaki, in Center for Mentally Handicaped People.
Necessary small equipment was purchased and budding of 2/3 seedlings trees were done.
Preparatory work on promotion of local product "Lipniaki jam" during trainings for local people on biodiverity in agriculture, value of traditional varieties and way of promotion of final product.
Special attention was given all activities in Lipianka, which allowed to extend theraphy and involve handicaped people in all reconstruction work at the orchad and nursery.
