Bayangol - Fruit plantation
Bayangol - Fruit plantation
Due to adverse effects of climate change, many springs, small streams, natural ponds and lakes in Mongolia have been dried up over the last 15-20 years. Haraa river is one of the biggest contributors to Selenge river which supplies 60 % of Baikal lake which accounts 20 % of world?s fresh water resources. The grant intends to develop a community based fruit plantation in order to support Haraa river bank ecosystem near Baruunharaa and livelihoods of local community. This project is being implemented in parallel with MON/05/08 with the same purpose of protecting Haraa river ecosystem. As some section of Haraa river is now well protected by the project, it is amazing that nature is restoring itself so well. In summer of 2005, there was a showcase for all 21 village management authorities and attended by province Governor and many high level officials from Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
