Likas na Lakas: An Information Program on Environment and Politics (NATIONAL)

The project aims to discuss/disseminate environment principles, programs and social development and a research and development for a continuing effort to give endless possibilities in formulating the program content.

Site visit will also be made to community-based projects through collaborative efforts.

Radio program for the dissemination and popularization of experiences and models of environment program and technologies. Content of program included proposals on alternative solutions to critical environmental issues.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

SGP-funded community-based projects were featured in the radio program segment "Buhay Mo, Buhay Ko" or "Your Life, My Life." Each SGP-funded project (during the pilot and first operational phase) allowing participation and the airing of voices of stakeholders at the local level. In addition, some segments of the program evoked/featured community participation in the project.

Policy Impact

The project facilitated the production and broadcast of various spots on environment as creative and effective means of promoting environmental advocacies. AM Radio is still the most effective means of reaching Filipinos today. Project contribution directly influences various communities in biodiversity conservation not only as groups but also as individuals.

Gender Focus

The radio program targets women listeners particularly through its segments on ecologically-sound health and beauty tips.

Notable Community Participation

The weekly radio program promoted awareness on the global environment through its discussions on the most pressing issues of the day, exclusive reports on the Philippine environment features SGP-funded projects, and environment-friendly health and beauty tips. The pressing issues of the day aired included the Visiting Forces Agreement, agrarian reform, textbook bribery scam, settlement for victims of human rights violation during the Marcos era, flooding in Agusan, perfomance rating of the Estrada Administration, etc. Among the environment exclusive reports were the San Mateo Landfill, Manila Bay Oil Spill, Solid Waste Management, Mining Activities in Negros, and slashed budget for protected areas.

Project Results
