10 emus were donated by the Federal University of Mato Grosso Zoo, and the areas for their breeding were prepared. The infra-structure was set up, and the grantee made eight monitoring trips to the area to ensure proper preparations. The specimens adapted well to their new habitats, were fed with commercial feed, Cerrado fruit, and insects. The indigenous populations indeed participated actively in the proposed activities, which was a success achieved by the project. They planned, executed, and evaluated the project. Environmental awareness was increased both in the local population and neighboring villages. This boosted the morale and self-esteem of the participants and provided a healthy source of protein for the villages. Some difficulties faced include wild animal attacks and difficulty in obtaining the donations from the partnerships established beforehand. Some wild specimens had to be captured to ensure the success of the initiative.
