Community Renewable Energy Integrated Demonstration in Liju Village, Three Parallel Rivers Area
The project site is located in Shitou towship, Yulong county, Lijiang city, where is the headwaters region of Jiangchong River, the Level 1 tributary of Jinshajiang River. The altitude of this village is between 2500m and 3500m. Liju is the closest village to Jinsichang, one of the Yunnan Golden Monkey habitats. There are 13 community groups in this village with total population 1361 of 346 households. Six different nationalities people are living here such as Lisu, Pumi,Yi and Han. Lisu population accounts for 64? of the total population. The main income of local people comes from medicinal plants cultivation and farming.
Main problems:
1. The community is located at frigid alpine area and the perennial temperature is low. Community's living, producing and heating patterns consume large amount of firewood. Each household consumes 15-20m3 firewood per year
2. There is limited renewable energy utilization in this community and it's lacking of renewable energy technology designed for frigid alpine area;
3. Community has 30000ha. of forestry but community members lack of awareness on forest addressing climate change
4. Old firewood-saving stoves cannot fit the rural development and new alternatives are needed
Solutions/activities:
1. demonstrate new energy-saving stoves in 145 households
2. demonstrate micro hydro power station
3. conduct climate change and forest education to local students
Anticipated results/outcomes:
1. about 1740m3 firewood consumption reduced and 1392tons of CO2 emission reduced through utilization of energy-saving stoves;
2. about 61300kwh electricity generated per year through micro hydro power station and 92tons of CO2 emission reduced
3. about 400 students and community members trained with climate change knowledge and 1300 people influenced; 80% of local students and community members' awareness enhanced
