Under the project, 2 used HOLMAN gold shaker tables and 1 used rock and stone crusher were delivered at below market value to the gold mine "Bor tolgoi" in Baruunkharaa soum of Selenge province and the "Shijir Khishig" CBO's gold mine in Zuunkharaa soum of the same province.

A training was organized on how to use the said equipment safely. Both the residents working in a shop for gold ore enrichment and artisanal miners transport gold ore from different locations and queue for several days to use the said equipment. Despite uniting into a group, artisanal gold miners cannot afford such expensive equipment. Therefore, they have no choice but use mercury to recover gold. A photo leaflet on the harmful effects of mercury was distributed as part of the project.
Artisanal miners are interested in foregoing gold mining and finding alternative employment. The safe operation of the equipment will be monitored.

32 staff of the ?Shijir khishig? CBO in Zuunkharaa soum of Selenge province and the ?Bor tolgoi? artisanal mine in Baruunkharaa soum of the same province are benefiting from the project. This amounts to a total of around 200 people, considering that each artisanal miner has a family of 4-5.

The miners in those two soums recover gold from ore in a large gold mine located at least 45-50 km from their home town. They also use chemicals to recover gold from ore. The project has given the artisanal miners an opportunity to spare time and forego use of chemicals in gold recovery. However, there is a risk that the miners will use chemicals again, as they are given back so-called ?slime?, residue of gold ore processed in a gold shaker table. Therefore, it is important not to give them residue ?slime?.
