In the village of Karashalan, agriculture is the main economic activity, and livestock is its main component. One of the main problems of the region is the absence or unsatisfactory condition of pasture infrastructure facilities in remote distant pastures, which in turn becomes a barrier for livestock grazing and the revival of traditional distant pasturing.
The proposed project is based on addressing the problems of degradation and erosion of pastures through sustainable pasture management, based on the participation of local communities in the seasonal management of distant pastures.
The main goal of the project is the organization of seasonal use of desert pastures in the village.
Karashalan to prevent land degradation.
The objectives of the proposed project are: organization of sustainable management of pasture landscapes in the village of Karashalan using distant pastures; creation on an area of 10 hectares of degraded arable land highly productive forage lands by planting perennial crops with minimal and gentle tillage; conducting an information and educational campaign in the village of Karashalan and in the Bogen Rural District.
Expected results: sustainable management of pasture landscapes is organized on 1,200 ha of degraded distant pastures; infrastructure on distant pastures created; a community herd was formed of 500 heads of cattle belonging to the residents of Karashalan; on 10 hectares of degraded arable land, seeded tangible lands were created by sowing forage crops: alfalfa and maize; planted 300 pieces of elm trees; 2 training workshops were held to raise awareness among community members about the causes of land degradation and the organization of sustainable management of rural pastures; 15 farmers in the district were trained, 107 villagers were raised in awareness, and the capacity of local authorities and farmers in the sustainable management of pasture landscapes was strengthened; monitoring and evaluation of the project implementation results were carried out.
