Building Climate Change Adaptation of Farmers
? Objectives:
a. To create awareness for targeted group, youth, and the public on climate change
i. Mission to create participatory learning on climate change and its affects. Firstly, dimension on reducing affects and conditions on climate change. Secondly, economic dimension that related to reforestation and water restoration. Also, expanding local plants and forests with communication and publish to the community.
b. To create conditions in adapting and building immunity for farmers who affected from the climate change
i. Increase more water storage in the farm by asking for sponsor from Land development department of Nakhonrachasrima
ii. Land development department ? solar cell energy used for water pump in the farm by using Water sprinkle system to save water
iii. Biomass energy and Biogas (some members have cows and buffalos) in cooking instead of fossil fuels. Animal wastes from gas can use to make organic fertilizer in plants to abstract carbon dioxide gas, create peaceful space in the farm and build sustainable water system
c. To create biodiversity and increase plantations to reduce climate change and economic problem
i. Gather local plant sprout to breed, and plant in public area and farmer?s land parcel by targeted group and youth. Create rice and local plant bank to develop plan and operation in managing the Public forest of Kok bu lao sustainably.
? Beneficial: 95 households
? Target area:
There are two main targeted areas in Nakhonrachasrima province.
Firstly, in Bua lai district including Baan lub gong moo 10, Baan nong gong moo 13, non chan subdistrict, Baan pa lai moo 3 in Muang pa lai subdistrict (coordinator office).
Secondly, Bua yai district which are Baan kum muang moo 13, villages around public forest of Kok bu lao - Baan nong pa niad moo 3, Baan non-pa luang moo 2, and Baan ku ma ga, Gud jok subdistrict.
The landscape of the targeted area is a wavy and ridge area. There are high ridge areas mixed with flat areas.
? Proposed activities:
a. Strengthen community capability
i. Educating on climate change, its affect and adaptation
ii. Training on plant cultivation for instance, plant collecting, plant breeding, and plantation of Kok forest trees and local trees
iii. Seminar on reforestation of Kok bu lao forest plan
iv. Training on usage and install of solar cell and Biomass gas stove
b. Demonstrational/ Operational activity
i. Alternative energy ? Solar cell installation for agricultural usage to pump water, electric fence for buffalos and cows, and light (10 people), and build biomass gas stove (20 people)
ii. Local plant seeds harvesting and breeding in two plant nurseries
iii. Gather rice seeds both paddy rice and sticky rice from members of Bua yai and Bua lai villages, to set up as Rice seed bank
iv. Create project supporting rice farm from Land development department of Nakhonrachasrima for 16 people
v. Build water jar to store rain for 10 places around Kok bu lao by students in Bua yai subdistrict and Gud jok subdistrict
c. Knowledge gathering activity (Gather data, result, lessons learned, and experiences from the project)
i. Gather information about Kok bu lao forest and local wisdom in sustainable management of the forest
ii. Create information, exhibition, documents to distribute. It could be done by writing poem or Korat songs to sing about the success of the project for example, alternative energy, and climate change and its affect
iii. Present the project in district events
d. Participatory evaluation
i. Committee follows up on the project to evaluate the success according to the criteria
ii. Seminar concluding the project with allies
? Targeted group:
There are two main targeted group which are Laos ethnic group and Thai Korat. The Laos ethnic group is divided into three group namely, Northern Laos, Central Laos, and Southern Laos. The Thai Korat group are those immigrated from Ayutthaya
