The purpose of the project was achieved - facilitation of the implementation of environmentally friendly, resource-efficient and energy-efficient technologies at the local level, promotion of investment and innovation, developing recommendations for the integrated solution of municipal and regional problems in the field of waste management were done. The project organized the National Forum on Waste Management "Formation of Waste Management Programs for the Consolidated Communities: Best Practices and Problem Issues" that was held on November 22-23, 2018 in Kyiv. Participants learned main issues and best practices of the formation and implementation of waste management programs at local and regional levels, in the communities, the state of hazardous waste management and waste management in Ukraine; got familiar with the current developments of Ukrainian scientists on environmentally safe recycling and waste management. The number of participants of the forum was 345 people, including public authorities and local government, as well as the public. Moreover, public consultations were held on the topic of Ukraine's accession to the Minamata Convention during September-October 2018 in Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kyiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhya, Kherson regions, with participation of 180 people - representatives of state authorities and local government, consolidated communities, scientists, institutions working in the field of environmental safety and environmental protection, environmental NGOs, media. In addition, the establishment of new waste management programs for consolidated communities provided the alternative processing of 8,000 tonnes of solid waste, and the proper disposal of 8,000 tonnes of obsolete pesticides. For raising public awareness, materials from the National Waste Management Forum (500 copies) were published and distributed among the Forum?s participants, representatives of the consolidated communities, and participants of consultations. Also, a number of analytical reports ("Problematic issues of handling waste batteries and other power supplies in Ukraine and its solutions", "Legal regulation and formation of priority measures in the field of management of medical waste", "Review of best practices in dealing with household waste in newly created consolidated communities", "State of agricultural waste management in Ukraine: environmental and economic losses") were produced. Information about the project was shared in All-Ukrainian and local media, on web-portals and in social networks. Total participation of the project was 525 people (women - 60%, men - 40%), besides 200 representatives of vulnerable groups who were given direct support: pensioners, children under the age of 16.
