Strengthening Local communities’ resilience to climate change and livelihood.
The overall aim of this project is develop the capacity of Local farmers and community Leaders aswell as school Administrators to adapt of prevailing changes in the natural environment due to climate change affecting their lives and the potential danger to the means of livelihood. Thiswill achieved by proving them with the technical skills and knowledge to create awareness on how to cope with climate change as farmers and community dwellers as well as introducing and supporting them to alternative means of earning livelihood. This intervention seeks to engage 20 rural communities and other actors in two districts of Nimba County.

Participants will be introduced to low farm technology along with swamp rice production discouraging the traditional extensive system and damaging system of slash and burn or shifting cultivation. These will guarantee food security with keen focus on food and alternative livelihood.

Consistent with this will be a Medium program in Livelihoods and small scale village savings loan Association to enhance improved economic activities amongst farmers. Coordination and collaboration will be encouraged with key stakeholders such as FDA, Arcelor -Mittal Biodiversity Program, community Forest Management Board, Chief and Elders and all those that play key role in protecting and managing the community Land and Resources.

This intervention will in collaboration with key top level local leaders (District Commissioners, Paramount, Clan, Town Chiefs and Elders selects representative from communities (at least ten) with the view of creating and giving strong awareness messages, testing/trying available but appropriate technologies aimed at eliminating forest destruction and reducing people?s dependence on forest resources by encouraging stabilization of farming through improved Agriculture Techniques and diversification of other Livelihood activities.

Notable Community Participation
An in-depth consultation has already taken place, with discussions beginning in 2017 with community and stakeholders representative. This proposal has evolved as a direct result of that consultation process and a pre-project development visit which was undertaken from September by the project team
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Knowledge transfer and capacity building based on personal involvement of local people are at the heart of this project and hence dissemination is an integral aspect of what is planned
