Sustaining agro-ecological services in Langdurbi village through sustainable natural resource management for biodiversity conservation and livelihood
Langdurbi Sub-Block (200-2100 m) under Bardo Block in Zhemgang District is a part of the wildlife corridor connecting Royal Manas National Park and Phrumsengla National Park constituting Zhemgang forest Division covering entire Block area. The community of Langdurbi Chiwog consists of 70 households with the population of 500 including male and female.
The Block remains one of the most inaccessible and remote regions under Zhemgang District. It has one of the highest levels of poverty incidence in the country and remains among the most vulnerable districts in terms of food security due to geophysical constraints, poor physical infrastructure and lack of road access. The community are primarily agrarian with paddy, maize, mandarin and vegetables as some of the major crops grown in the Chiwog. They also depend on livestock and forestry resources for their livelihood. The community has very limited income source through sale of vegetable, crop surplus, livestock produce and forestry resources. The village is seven hours walk from the nearest road point and marketing of the agriculture and livestock produce is incredibly difficult.

Its overall objective of the project is to maintain the landscape of Landurbi Chiwog in its best form for perpetual community livelihood development. This project aims to uplift the livelihood of the poor producer of Langdurbi Sub-block by improving the livelihood (climate change adaptation) through various activities. The sustainable land management and water source protection initiative will support cultivation of fallow and farmlands and provide reliable water source for the community and future generation. Initiatives will also include installation of home-based bio gas plant which would mean means less carbon dioxide and methane gas.

Project Objectives :
To enable community to conserve agriculture land in sustainable ways. To improve quality of water resources. To improve socio-economic standards of the people in the community.
Expected outputs: Through this project, sustainable land management practices are expected to protect the farmlands and also enhance the management of forest and water resources. Thereby, transforming fallow land into productive lands (such as cultivable land, orchard and napier plants) reducing the incidences of soil / gully erosion forming stronger soil structure in return. Beside many advantages it would also contribute towards reducing Climate Change impact will be fulfilled.
Description of Project Activities
Supply of seed and seedlings, sustainable land management and dry land contour terracing, pasture development, bio-gas plant installation at household level, erosion control management, water source conservation, log and stone check dam, drainage and retaining and breast wall
