Enhanced livelihood for the city waste pickers through strengthening the plastic waste management systems
The project aims to increase socio-economic status of 32000 rag pickers and improve waste management system. It will develop a sustainable model for public-private partnership. The project develop mechanisms for door-to-door collection of non-biodegradable waste and introducing measures for handling of non-biodegradable waste including compression of plastic and transportation for recycling.

Gender Focus
100 units of site composting were set-up in collaboration with Bhopal Municipal Corporation through which more 2565 rag-pickers are provided livelihood. Formation of ward level Sarthak karmis (rag pickers) into the SHGs for better dissemination and Linking them to banks and encourage them to have regular savings. The waste pickers will be linked to Municipal authorities, cement factories and various social protection schemes. The project is community based model where all the members (male and female) rag pickers are involved and it has given them employment and recognition in the society.
Capacity - Building Component
3200 waste pickers are identified and trained on plastic waste management measures.
