Reclaiming of Hujra an innovative and sustainable ecotourism model at Bhitshah, with active participation of indigenous community
Objective 1: To reclaim Hujra with making it a sustainable tourist model within a year
Activity 1.1: Landscaping of Hujra & solid waste management system within shrine area
The landscaping of Hujra area ? creates very catchy point for tourists, visitors and devotees. The grounds include green-space, beautiful sitting area walkway within the Hujra premises and also towards the eco-resort building (Madan Faqeer Tourist Resort Building) and the cultural place shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. The Hujra ground provide abundant opportunities for integration into learning, whether for gardening, easy access to bushwalking, and play spaces for young children ? those who visit along their parents.
Including the landscaping of Hujra premises ? the system of solid waste management will be improved. The installation of dustbins, effective messages for improving environment.
The intervention promotes enterprises management and direct economic benefit to local people. The environment friendly practices and peaceful environment for small, medium and self-sustained enterprises futuristic approach because indigenous skills and products like flicker water vessels, beautiful pottery designs, amazingly painted Ajrak locally prepared products will be made available here. The exhibitions and beautiful stalls (indigenous display centers) will be set within the Hujra premise as enterprises corner or commercial retail business centers. The artisans? art will be promoted and they get valuable benefit at local market place which is generally impossible for the indigenous artisans?. Mostly the borrow very large amount from middleman and then start their labor because display centers and market is not available local and they are unable to invest the amount to sell the products international markets. The landscaping and preserving of Hujra is development an enterprises market and sort display centers for local people to sell their products in good rates.
Activity 1.2: Construction of indigenous guest house
Bhitshah is a very beautiful place to visit and live ? it?s a heaven on earth. The landscaping and establishing a tourist spot ? a joint venture within Hujra premises. A separate indigenous structured shelter designed will be constructed. This will be breathtaking location that will make full joy of tourist environment. A pathway to natural Karar Lake will be linked; the blooming of lily plants will be seen directly in a visit. Every visitor will experience like a paradise on earth the area would be covered with indigenous trees, plants preserved, all around.
Activity 1.3: Paved walkway and sitting area - Construction of lavatory blocks ? and Up-gradation of Hujra
The paved walkway will be constructed with sitting area, lavatory blocks will be constructed, and the work of Hujra up-gradation will be carried out. This will be offer a new insight to people on ecotourism.
Objective 2: To offer healthy and fresh food to tourists/visitors round the clock
Activity 2.1: Kitchen/Canteen
The delicious tuck-shop ? a canteen point of healthy food is to be established separately.
Within the Hujra premises a delicious tuck-shop would be established. The visitors/tourists will sit within a cultural environment near the restaurant building. The delicious food items will be served in neat and clean in an environment surrounded by greenery of indigenous plants preserved. The food will be offered as per need, people from other nations will be offered food of their own choice. The list of menu will be finalized with coordination of these visitors from different countries. Very often, they (foreign) visitors pay visit but do not stay more than two or three hours here and they return back to Hyderabad or Karachi due to unavailability of delicious food and a safer environment of enjoying staying. The tuck-shop connected with Madan Faqeer resort would be an eye-catching spot as well as attracting point for delicious food of different tastes.
Objective 3: To protect endangered, trees, birds and animal species in good-looking manner
Activities - Cages for plants, trees, birds and animals
- Preserving indigenous endangered trees within Hujra, shrine and surrounded Bhitshah
As per this activity the trees, plants and animals will be preserved within Hujra premises. Whereas, for improving overall environment at Bhitshah and connecting with natural lake ? three trees and plants will be planted with the active participation of local people. Following trees will be planted at main locations at Bhitshah. The names are proposed as under. Moringa tree, Moringa oleifera is called mother?s best friend. The Golden Shower tree (Casia Fistula), locally known as "Amaltas" bears a fruit which is used in local herbal medicine. It is also called "umeed ka phool": flower of hope. Marudha (Terminalia Arjuna), locally known as "Arjun", is a beautiful tree. In local languages it is called "baaghon ka muhafiz": protector of gardens, The Silk Cotton tree (Bombax Ceiba), locally known as "Sumbal". A tree that matches its name in beauty, and it is often covered with flowers and strands of silk, Salt Cedar (Tamarix Aphylla), locally known as "Okan". Some call it "meherban dost": the considerate friend, Coral tree/Flame tree (Erythrina Stricta Subirosa), this tree bears different colored flowers and is often called "Rangeela": or colorful.
Objectives 5: Promote esthetic of tourism with unique way of performance Shah-Jo-Raag ? under the guidance of a Harvard University researcher Pei-ling Huang.
Activity 5.1: Spiritualism-music (Shah-Jo-Raag) corner
There is very less participation women in environment promotion activities at Bhitshah and overall Sindh due to male dominancy. In this intervention Shah Latif Foundation (SLF) has proposed to connect spiritual-music (Shah-Jo-Raag) with environment agenda. The young female devotes, researchers, students from University of Sufism and visitors will be invited to participate in Shah-Jo-Raag corner ? a separate tourist point within Hujra. This will be particularly leaded by young women. The male members will be asked to follow women, in this segment ? in active participation. This will be motivation point for women.
