Energy Academy: Building capacity to support the development of sustainable communities through renewable energy technology.
Energy Academy: Building capacity to support the development of sustainable communities through renewable energy technology.
This project is in keeping with our school?s philosophy and national and international priorities. The project addresses the following barriers to fully embracing low-carbon energy solutions, from a school?s perspective. These include, lack of awareness amongst the local community of current opportunities to access and utilize renewable energy technologies at homes, institutions and workplaces. That in the near future, people will be living in a world in which renewable energy use is the norm, however, The Bahamas is far behind the curve in this area. That as a country, we need to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and in so doing, embrace opportunities to support the development of alternative sustainable livelihoods, yet we lack the capacity to incorporate renewable energy into the curriculum and provide opportunities for young people to engage with renewable technologies, innovate and prepare themselves for careers in the field. Our project seeks to train and change mindsets of teachers and students and engage the community in the conversation.
