Project Results
The planning and design phase allowed organisation committee to engage with select members of the community to identify concerns and main threats for reduction of soil fertility being a result of overuse of fertilizer and excessive land use.
Project Risks and How to manage these Risks
i. Irrigation Source: The source of water supply in the community is often a point of contention between neighboring clans. Therefore the participants agreed that they will source water source with the boundary of their clan land.
ii. Community in-kind contributions: The association has key principles that all community labor will be free of charge (FOC). Community contributions in all past community initiated projects including the GGGF a funded project has always been in kind. Project awareness will be made through the Community Forum meeting at the start, during and towards the end and closure of the full project implementation.
iii. Community Support: The project implementation depends entirely on the full voluntary support of the community members at the management and project implementation level. The nature of the organizational structure making the management and project beneficiaries as one and the same people is a strong internal force that serves as a structural incentive to create, hold together and foster strong community support. Community support will be continually encouraged on a monthly basis through the Community Form meetings throughout the life of the project.
iv. Water Pollution: The water supply sourced for irrigation will be sourced from a cleaner water source. A water testing will be carried out during the construction phase to ensure the water is safe for both drinking and irrigation.
v. Soil Leaching: To avoid excessive use of water on the farm land, the water infrastructure (pipe lines) will be constructed within ease and accessible walking distance away from the farming lands. In this way, the farmers will manage the use of water conservatively without allowing continuous free flow onto farm land causing soil leasing.
Based on the GPS reading, an estimated land area of the Gohoyuho Community Clan on which will host the project sites is a total land area of 318 hectors
The immediate benefits of the full grant planning project;
1. Through the full grant planning meeting sessions, the participants (project beneficiaries) felt that the project concept is?welcome come? news. They know that changes in climate is affecting lives everywhere in the world including their own but cannot see how to work together as a community to become adaptable to these changes. The CBA program is a welcome support to help them.
2. The participants received new learning about how a project is designed including their project expectations. Because it is a first time full scale project proposal for their community, they look forward for its implementation as well as to continue to learn new things about project management.
3. Because the participants were directly involved in the planning session, they felt that the project concept is their own idea and are ready to take ownership. Also they are motivated by the fact that the project has dual benefits both to the natural environment and their socio-economic livelihood.
4. The analysis of the project beneficiary?s data survey results provided more in depth information about their community?s composition which will be used to enable better decision both for the project and other purposes.
long term benefits:
1. The recipient community will become more informed about the changes in their eco-system.
2. The community will be made climate change ready to take responsible mitigating actions in their community to become more adaptable to adverse impacts of climate change.
