This planning grant project was successfully concluded with use of $3500 to conduct community consultations with lcoal Domil community to design the larger project. A total of 450 females and 500 males were involved in the initial consultations and expected to benefit and participate in the large project.
The idea being promoted under this project is to conduct awareness that will educate people on bad land practices that result in disasters being experienced such as flash floods, erosion after heavy rainfall and burning of bush to create land for gardening. Long term plan is to support reforestation and assist the locals to build semi permanent housing, that will reduce need for local materials usually sourced from the forest. Every house built using locally sourced forest material requires replacement every five (5) years. It has been considered that this will reduce the need for trees for local housing construction.
SGP will support reforestation activity, livelihood support to introduce terrace gardening aimed at improving crop yield anticipated to reduce the need for large gardening areas and consequential deforestation.
