Climate Smart Village for Strengthening Sustainable Livelihoods in Tanahu
The present agriculture practices in rugged terrain of mountain contribute to climate change. Slash and burn with less fallow period, excessive use of chemicals and pesticides, lack of crop rotation, tillage in slopping land and lack of crop sanitation are few malpractices which not only contribute to climate change but also negatively affect crop production. In project area, climate change is directly disturbing crop farming due to soil erosion, river cutting and landslides. In addition, locals are using dangerous pesticides to enhance their crop productivity.
In order to address these problems, the project aimed to develop climate smart agriculture village in Devghat VDC of Tanahu. This demonstration will focus on preparing and using of biopesticides, compost, biofertilizer, use of climate smart crop, practice minimum tillage, land sanitation and crop rotation.
