PARTICIPATORY AND INCLUSIVE PLANNING AND IMPLMENTATION: A Capacity Enhancement Approach for Community Resilience & Sustainable Development in West Kilimanjaro – Lake Natron Ecosystem.
Project?s primary objective:
To enhance adaptive capacities of local and indigenous communities in West Kilimanjaro with the view to promoting community resilience against climate change.
Secondary objectives:
? Promote appropriate ecosystem management through landscape planning
? Mainstreaming gender in climate smart actions
Implementation strategies:
? Deepening the understanding of climate and poverty reduction relevant policies and plans (NEP-2015, NFYDP- 2016/2021, and ACRP- 2014?2019) to district and village and what they mean in Western Kilimanjaro-Lake Natron ecosystem context;
? Education, awareness, and engagement activities intended to help communities understand climate change risks and develop activities that build their adaptive capacities including sustainable livelihoods and diversification (this will include application of PICSCO);
? Enhancing the understanding/knowledge then develop village development strategy and demonstrate its implementation under participatory selected pilot activities;
? Enhancing capacity of existing innovative and alternative means of incomes that integrates landscape planning and use and development with appropriate ecosystem management; and
? Gender mainstreaming in climate smart actions and natural ecosystems management and use.
