Protection and promotion of the authoctonous cow breed “Ilirjane” in the Çaje area, Kukes
The breed of cattle called Busha or Illyrian are a small native breed which belong to a group of primitive short horned cattle (Bos brachyceros europaeus) with multiple strains of the breed being found across the Balkans. Some sources state that the Busha has existed around the Balkan Peninsula since Neolithic times. The breed is very resistant to disease, internal and external parasites, plus survive well with a minimum amount of management, low feed and natural grazing.
The project will be implemented in the Albanian side of the Korabi Mountain bordering Macedonia and will consist in establishing a breeding program as well as providing small material incentives to selected farmers in exchange for the participation in the breeding program.
