This project started with great promise but did not achieve its objectives because of the low level of cooperation achieved during the planning grant phase and the complexity of the issues associated with land ownership. Many of the landowners along the banks of the river did not sign the cooperative agreement and some owners could not be located. The group was also not able to receive the level of political and institutional support required for the project?s success.

Notwithstanding these challenges, the grantee was able to convene two meetings with 36 farmers; and organise two learning and demonstration field trips for 71 farmers. Fifteen members participated in planning sessions and thirteen members in the project writing workshops.

By the end of the project, one person was employed to assist the group and thirteen persons received training in project proposal writing.

With the lack of support for the project and the capacity deficits among the groups, the project did not evolve into a Full Grant project proposal.
