Creation of a regional information center on POPs and hazardous chemicals management
Project goal ? Awareness raising and public education on POPs and hazardous chemicals management in accordance with the provisions of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
Project tasks:
1. Creation of the regional information center on handling with POPs and hazardous chemicals.
2. Purchase of a chemical laboratory for analysis of the content of chemical compounds in the components of the environment as part of the activities of the information center.
3. Organizing of a seminar on the establishment and operation of the information center, with the participation of teachers, local communities, authorities, educational institutions and non-profit organizations.
4. Organization of the information campaign that includes publications in the media and posting information on the website of the project partner - the Kopys? Kindergarden - the secondary school of the Orsha district, and publication of information printed materials.
5. Laying an experimental plot for growing plants in accordance with the principles of organic farming.
6. Arranging a series of training seminars for environmental volunteers on inventory making of obsolete pesticides and hazardous chemicals locations.
Expected results:
1. Creation and equipping of the regional information center on the handling of POPs and hazardous chemicals on the basis of the "Kopys? kindergarden - secondary school of Orsha district"
2. Training of teachers for arranging of informative and practical lessons with various groups of the population in the framework of awareness-raising activities on the handling with POPs, batteries and hazardous chemicals.
3. Establishment and operation of volunteer groups to carry out an inventory of obsolete pesticides and hazardous chemicals locations, and to take operative measures for their elimination.
4. The information center involvement in training of various groups of the population (including children, school students, working population and pensioners) in three regions of the country: Viciebsk, Mahileu and Minsk oblasts.
5. Raising public awareness on the handling with persistent organic pollutants and other hazardous chemicals, and measures that can be taken to prevent and reduce the effects of persistent organic pollutants on public health.
6. Reduction of the content of hazardous chemical compounds in the components of the environment and improvement of living conditions of the local population.
7. Improving the effectiveness of the GUP "Kopys? kindergarden - secondary school of Orsha district" in terms of educational outreach activity work in the sphere of handling POPs and hazardous chemical compounds.
8. Dissemination of project implementation experience to other regions of the country.
