Community Livelihood Improvement through the Protection of Community Natural Resources and Native Fish Conservation
Beuang Sane Theung village, Nongbok district, Khammouane province previously was one of the richest and the wealthiest villages in term of natural aquatic resources as well as the biodiversity of the wetland. More than 50 native fish species were identified and considered for the main sources of household income to secure the food security for daily consumption. With the recent rapid economic development activity, the quick change of natural resources, losing forest cover and the rapidly dried-up of communal lake that consequently become the main causes of biodiversity lost, food insecurity and unsustainable development of the community livelihood, moreover the paddy field agricultural expansion has increasingly become the critical concern for local authority on how to manage the sustainability of natural resources use. Therefore, the aim of this project is to improve community sustainable livelihood through the training on community-based management system of natural resources, including the community fish conservation area, and the wetlands usage to foster sustainable community livelihood development.
