Pro-Poor Public Private Partnership for Access to Modern Energy Service and Community Development in Namgnim Village, Phiang District, Xaiyabuly Province
For the last few years, the Lao government has retained the pro-poor focus in its energy policy development. However, public sector constraints prevent rapid strides. Thus, it?s imperative to promote private investment along with community ownership and government partnership to enhance access to modern energy services in rural areas. To foster the social and economic development of Lao PDR, the government targets a national household electrification rate of 90% within 2020. The rural areas particularly suffer from a lack of safe and reliable electricity supply. Therefore, as endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, off-grid alternative schemes for electrification should be developed to improve basic services and boost income generating activities in rural areas. The project aims to facilitate environmental-friendly access to electricity in rural of Namgnim, thus contributing to improved living standards and economic development of those populations while protecting climate.
