Ecosystem Conservation of Nam Ngum Headstream Forest for Ecotourism of Local Community
Nam Ngum headstream forest is a branch of the Mekong River, located in the between Muang Kham, Phoukod and Muang Peak disktricts, Xiengkhuang province, which is well known as the national protected area. This area is abundant of natural resources and suits for ecotourism destination. However, the local people here are living on natural sources service for instance animal hunting, collect non-timber forest products to sell, doing slash and burn practice or shifting upland cultivation such as these are the threats for national resources degradation. Recently, the natural resources of this area have been declined significantly. To solve this problem, the management on sustainable use of natural resources through the link to the ecotourism conservation becomes highly important. Therefore, the project proponent together with local authority aims to help the target community to identify the headstream forest area for sustainable development in the long run, to promote the ecotourism, raising awareness and promote livelihood of community through ecosystem conservation.
