The project aimed to improve the sustainability of Wadi Al Quf National Forest, and consequently the environment and ecology of the rural communities living around the national preserve, which is approximated by more than 90,000 inhabitants (14,634 male, 14,634 female and 62,175 children). This was accomplished by increasing the green areas of the preserve by re plantation of forty dunums or forty thousand M2 with 10,000 indigenous young trees inoculated with a native isolate (Jn 14) of the bio-agent Trichoderma harzianum. The fungus was mass produced (100 kg of the bio-product) in the laboratories of the ?Plant Protection Research Center? of Hebron University and introduced at a later stage to the soil-bed that was used for planting a variety of indigenous young forest trees. The bio-agent is expected to protect the roots of these young trees from soil-borne pests and pathogens at the rarely stages of their development and acts as abio-fertilizer at a later stage and consequently improves young trees health and wellbeing. In addition to that, the project improved environmental awareness within the local community to the importance of the National Forest in improving people?s health (e.g., 10,000 trees is expected to improve air quality for 40,000 inhabitants). This will also contribute hopefully to preventing soil erosion of the forest. In addition, the project enhanced participatory skills of the local community in protecting their environment and its impact on health status. Furthermore, the project had direct benefits impact on agricultural graduate students by training more than two hundred and forty (130 females and 110 males). Students were well trained how to produce bio- fertilizers as wettable powder under labs conditions and how to use and replace it as alternative to chemical fertilizers, and how to use it in producing seedling. All participants were trained how to transplant the fortified seedlings in land and enhanced their awareness to the importance of wadi Auf National Forest to the environment and the local community.
