Preservation and Sustainability of Wadi Al-Quf National Forest in Hebron Governorate by the Implementation of Smart Agricultural Technologies
Preservation and Sustainability of Wadi Al-Quf National Forest in Hebron Governorate by the Implementation of Smart Agricultural Technologies
The project aims at improving the sustainability of ?Wadi Al-Quf National Forest?, and consequently the environment and ecology of the rural communities living around the national reserve, which is approximated by more than 90,000 inhabitants. This will be accomplished by increasing the green areas of the reserve by replantation of 10,000 indigenous young trees inoculated with native isolate (Jn14) of the bio-agent Trichoderma harzianum. The fungus will be mass produced (100 kg of the bio-product) in the laboratories of the ?plant Protection Research Center? of Hebron university to be introduced at a later stage to the soil-bed that will be used for planting a variety of indigenous forest trees. In addition to that, the project is expected to increase environmental awareness within the local community and focus on the importance of the National Forest in improving people?s health (e.g., 10,000 trees is expected to improve air quality for 40,000 inhabitants), through producing 500 printed pamphlets and poster, conducting field day in Wadi alQuf National forest for students and local communities and NGOs, and conducting final workshop at the college of agriculture at Hebron University. This will prevent soil erosion of the forest, keep moisture in soil, and contribute in stopping climate change in the area.
