Establishment of Basket production and fruit processing workshop for disabled people in Lyaksh district.
The project is about establishment of local workshop for Disable People of Lyakhsh district for production of Baskets from local biodiversity species (twigs) and reprocessing of agriculture food crops by producing tinned and canned products with subsequent its marketing in local markets. The key objectives of the project is to protect and to effective use of the local biodiversity, to create employment for disabled people in mountainous region of Tajikistan, to improve livelihoods and thereby contributing to the local economy development.

Project Characteristics and Results
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
1) Assessment of local potential and conduct training courses for 40 members of Society and their family members on basket production, fruit and local biodiversity processing, 2) Allocation of 0.5 ha of land by landowners and Dekhkan famers where Society will undertake planting of species for production of twigs/ straws for basket production; 3) Establishment of local workshop for basket production, fruits and medicinal herbs reproduction, thereby ensuring biodiversity conservation and employment for 40 invalids, 4) Organize and conduct civic awareness raising campaigns amongst rural population, particularly within disable people of the district; 5) Elaboration and publication of information materials, manuals for correct harvesting and packaging of medicinal herbs and berries of local biodiversity.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
500 publication materials and guidebooks produced for fruit processing techniques and 500 publications developed for basket production/ wickerwork from local biodiversity resources;
