Groves in Taragt
Together with local herders, the CBO will fence 6 headsprings in Taragt soum of Uvurkhangai aimag. The project will be implemented on 6 hectares of land. The CBO will plant 3 rows of locally grown trees such as aspen and willow in the fenced area, increase the springs? water volume and protect the area against trampling by cattle. Crop fields cover 70 hectares of Uvurkhangai aimag?s Taragt soum. The forest strip is critical as it helps soil keep its moisture during drought and dry, hot wind, spreads snow water evenly on slopes and prevents soil surface being blown by wind in cold spring weather. The UNDP has developed a methodology for the protection of springs and trained the relevant instructors. The NSC members alerted the CBO to the need to use that methodology in the course of the project implementation.
