Promoting Organic Agriculture Practices and Food Security Agriculture
The main focus of this project is to provide protection for biodiversity within the East Nimba Natural Reserve (ENNR), through promoting organic agriculture practices and food security in agriculture landscape and enhancing sustainable forest and agriculture landscape and Management for biodiversity conservation which is the best way to achieve the objectives of UNDP and partners. Zeytontuo, and Kporlay and other Communities located around the East Nimba Natural Reserve forest depend on the forest for their livelihood which endangers the species in the East Nimba Natural Reserve (ENNR), and their activities also contribute immensely to the deforestation of the ENNR. Therefore, WISD want to prioritize food security through improved agriculture methodology (Swamp project) as an alternative of food security and livelihood for the communities because it will help to provide the communities with food and avert deforestation that leads to global warming and also save the species in the ENNR. There will also be capacity building activities among a wide group of stake holders in these two communities where farming and hunting activities in ENNR are on the increase on the importance of biodiversity protection and its benefits. As has proven by communities? activities, most of the communities? inhabitants are not aware of the laws designating these species as endangered and there is need to create awareness on this. Moreover, most people are not aware that alternative livelihood can be created to revert deforestation and global warming. Providing protection for ENNR and ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of the importance conservation would help Liberia fulfills its national and international conservation obligations.
