The Agro-ecological Production and Participatory and Sustainable Marketing project to strengthen resilience and food security in the communities of Ribeira da Cruz, Martiane and Chã de Norte, Ilha de Santo Antão intends to respond to the problems identified by the communities of Ribeira da Cruz, Martiane and Chã de Norte, in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão. Some of identified problems were limited capacities on sustainable agriculture practices, some use of pesticides and herbicides, limited agro production due to unappropriated packing treatment and marketing of products, and uncoordinated efforts by local farmers, which were driving produce prices downwards

The project responds simultaneously to Components "2" (Innovative climate-smart agro-ecology) and "4" (Local Coalition for Global Chemicals Management) Of the GSP-GEF-OP6. The action intends to favor the practice of a sustainable and intelligent agriculture as a means for the conservation of the landscape and the reduction of soil contamination and for the strengthening of food security and resilience in the rural communities of Ribeira da Cruz, Martiane and Chã de Norte.
The following specific objectives were defined: 1. To promote the practice of sustainable and intelligent agriculture as a means for landscape conservation, and restoration of soil and strengthening of food security and resilience in rural communities Of Ribeira da Cruz, Martiane and Chã de Norte; 2. To create a network of agricultural farmers and promote reduction of the use of herbicides, pesticides and other chemical soil contamination agents. 3. To create proper marketing the agro-ecological orientation channels to consolidate and increase businesses for agricultural producers and beneficiaries.
