The Nam Sim Resources Protection and Biodiversity Conservation
Nam Sim is a place in Viengxay district, Huaphanh province that had an abundance of biodiversity and forest. Nam Sim is very important and essential to the local people life in 19 villages of Viengxay district especially for the consumption of drinking water, water supply to agriculture production and livestock. However, the biodiversity is being declined, many kinds of species are at risk of extinction and some of species disappeared from the forest such as deer, gibbons, because of the invasion of the local people for food hunting and reckless using of natural resources. In 2009, the people in Viengxay district were brought together to define Nam Sim as the Forest Conservation Area of the community. However, there is no limited precise on the regulatory enforcement as a tool to manage and protect watershed and biodiversity. Therefore, the project will help to support district authorities about land use planning, capacity building on biodiversity survey for Agriculture and Forestry Office of the district in order to support on the demonstration farming, livestock and agroforestry to the community.
