Pluvial Demonstration Garden for Climate Change
Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre (KATC) is a faith based organisation, owned by the Society of Jesus (JESUITS). KATC was founded in 1974. Its focus is organic agriculture. The institution has five sections namely; training, extension, production and an emerging lobbying and advocacy section. The training section is mandated with training, KATC has to date trained over 10,000 people from within Zambia?s ten provinces and from other countries such as Malawi, Burundi and Namibia. The training includes organic vegetable production, sustainable organic agriculture, agribusiness etc. The extension section is responsible for the outreach, KATC works in Rufunsa and Chongwe districts. A number of extension methods are used to reach out. These include: demonstration plots, field days, radio programme, household follow up visits, etc. The research section is responsible for carrying out various research in relation to organic agriculture and the production section aims to generate income to contribute to the running cost of the institution and is also used as teaching aid and a model for organic agriculture.
