Promoting the use of organic manure and locally produced pesticides to maximise farm incomes among vegetable women farmers in the West Coast Region of The Gambia
This project seeks to promote Agro-organic Farming among women vegetable producers in the West Coast Region of The Gambia. The project basically seeks promote the systematic use of non chemical fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides and growth regulators, relying on crop rotation, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manure, organic wastes to feed the soil and supply plant nutrition, insects, weeds and other pests through mechanical cultivation and cultural and biological controls. The benefits to this project is to promotes and enhance biodiversity, biological cycle and soil productivity. It is also based on minimum use of external inputs and management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.
Through this project, project farm output and income and sell farm products that are chemically free and environmental friendly will be maximised.

Gender Focus
About 80% of the beneficiaries are women; and the remaining 20% are men. With this, the project is narrowing the existing disparity in the community given that women in this area are more disadvantaged regarding access to arable land, training, technology and funding.
