Implementation of mechanism for collection and recycling of used mercury lamps in retail chains
Implementation of mechanism for collection and recycling of used mercury lamps in retail chains
Lack of effective mechanisms for mercury-vapor lightening products management is a challenge for modern Ukraine. The project aims at addressing issues of collection, storage, transportation and disposal of mercury-vapor lamps in the country. Its main goal is to establish a system of collection points for mercury-vapor lamps with all necessary equipment installed. The project develops a comprehensive system for collection and transportation of light bulbs with the further disposal of 20 000 lamps. In addition, an information campaign on energy-efficient lightening is held in the mass-market chains. The main project objectives are as follows: - promote lamp disposal among local communities; - increase demand for energy-efficient lightening and inform the community on its benefits; - motivate community representatives to switch to energy-efficient lamps; - raise public awareness on environmental issues and sustainable management of households.
