Baseline studies and Development OP6 (2015-2018) Country Programme Strategy for Malawi
Mzuzu University is a public institution of Higher learning and research constituted by the ACT of Parliament, NUMBER 12 of 1997. The Institution has more than 400 members of staff involved in teaching, outreach, research and implementation of development programmes. The Institution is supported through government subvention, students? fees, research grants and other donations through teaching/learning and research infrastructure. Mzuzu University offers BSc, BA, MSc, MA and PhD degrees in five Faculties that include: Environmental Sciences, Education, Health Sciences, Library and information Science, Tourism and Hospitality management. Besides academic degrees in Faculties, Mzuzu University offers formal (with certificates) informal (with no certificates) skills development training in Water and Sanitation, Renewable Energy technologies to various government and Non Governmental Organizations through Centers of Excellence in Water and Sanitation; and Energy Training and Testing Center. Its mission is to provide high quality education, training, research and complimentary services to meet the technological, social and economic needs of individuals and communities in Malawi and the world. Over the years members have worked with different clients including: Government of Malawi on land use planning, local and international Non-Governmental Organisations on programme development and strategic planning, international funding agencies such as the Flanders International Cooperation Agency (FICA) on food security, FAO on fisheries and aquaculture, GEF SGP OP5 on climate change, RUFORUM on fisheries and aquaculture, Irish Aid on climate change, CABMACC on Climate change. Members have extensive local experience and participated in development projects and programmes of different dimensions. Currently, Members are providing technical assistance to The Salvation Army (Integrated Food, Water and Sanitation), Find Your Feet (Right to Food), UN Habitat (Integrated Food, Water and Sanitation), DanChurchAid (Right to Food and Governance).
The objectives of the assignment are:
1-To initiate the development of the SGP OP6 Country Programme Strategy (OP6 CPS) an assessment and scoping exercise will be undertaken to take stock of the results and achievements of the SGP country programme thus far and identify the priority directions for programming in OP6 in line with the SGP OP6 project document, the country?s national priorities, GEF 6 programming directions, and potential for synergy with UNDP and other partner agencies.
2-To develop a landscape/seascape strategy that will guide grant-making with typology of projects proposed, and sets of indicators for selected SGP strategic initiatives identified
