Assessment of the results of the COMDEKS project in Kyrgyzstan

The idea of the project is to asses results and generalize experience of the COMDEKS initiative in Kyrgyzstan in the form of publication of best practices, booklets, creation of a project video in order to facilitate access of population to its practices. Also a broad informational campaign based on the work performed is planned in Issyk-Kul province of the Republic.

Project Characteristics and Results

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Aquaitance with COMDEKS's best practices enspird many people from different regions of Kyrgyzstan, and built a strong base for further development of the GEF SGP in Kyrgyzstan. Training events also allowed to train many people on development of the project proposals.

Gender Focus

Both women and men were equally involved in project, in positions of experts, trainers, consultaints, designers and participants of the events. project leader is a women, who mobilized NGOs from defferent regions of Kyrgyzstan to helped GEF SGP in distribution of the COMDEKS's best practices.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

Case study in Russian, English and Kyrgyz languages were developed and issued, as well as project video (both in Russian and English).

Capacity - Building Component

During project realization consultations of specialist on biodiversity, sustinable agriculture, sociologist, renewble energy sources, data base, etc. was provided to the grantee.

Project sustainability

Project is sustainable, as trained people will be able to develop their project proposals or establish their own social enterpreneurships with or without GEF SGP support. Network of the COMDEKS grantees in Issyk-Kul will serve as network on consultancy centers.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Project materials (case study, training materials, etc.) was developed and issued, short particiaptory video about COMDEKS initiatives in Kyrgyzstan was also prepared.

Replication of project activities

Successful work, started in Issyk-Kul province within COMDEKS initiative, will be continued in new OP6 GEF SGP project activities (accoding to the strategy), with a special accent on fish biodiversity of the Issyk-Kul lake, support to nature protection territories and biosafety issues.

The project produced policy impact, as it allowed widely distribute COMDEKS experience not only in Issyk-Kul province, but widely in the country.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The project was aimed to organize wide information campaign on results of the COMDEKS project in Kyrgyzstan. Information support of the GEF SGP network was also provided.

Notable Community Participation

Yuth was involved in all project activities, starting from involvment of the young specialists, and till organization of the project events in the regions of Kyrgyzstan.

Project Results

1. Information meetings with stakeholders were held. Collection of information for an assessment and interviewing was carried out.
2. 2 workshops with grantees and beneficiaries of the COMDEKS project in Balykchy and Karakol were held.
3. Attendance of experts (economist, environmentalists, a sociologist and expert on renewable energy sources) to assess the results of projects around the Issyk-Kul lake was carried out. The information collected for the final case study within the project.
4. Experience of the COMDEKS projects is generalized and presented in the form of electronic thematic leaflets on 15 projects.
5. Project leaflets has been printed.
6. CD with the COMDEKS project data was prepared and printed.
7. Members of the NSC and the State Agency attended the COMDEKS projects? sites with the purpose of evaluation.
8. Final meeting (COMDEKS conference) together with the office of the GEF SGP and members of the NSC was organized.
9. GEF SGP website was updated and information support of the project was ensured, including coverage of results of the COMDEKS projects in mass media.
10. GEF SGP case study was been prepared, translated in 3 languages and published.
11. Information campaign for the schools and universities of the Issyk-Kul oblast was conducted.
12. Video about results of the COMDEKS project was developed (in Russian).
