The project idea was based on the formulation of three teams consisted from women and youth in Rum, Aqaba and Al- Rishah areas. Through the Princess Basmas' Development Centers (PBDC) in the three mentioned areas, the project build the capacities of the teams' environmentally to enable them to define the environmental priorities and problems in their communities and present them to the decision makers.
After building the capacities of the three teams, an environmental competition was announced by PBDC where one month period was given for each team to prepare an environmental exhibition in their community with the help of local community members to represent and reflect the area?s background and main challenges and problems that it faces through drawings, pictures, models, publications or any products related to environment. Each exhibition included several meetings with decision makers to discuss what have been displayed during the exhibition, how to protect the environment and finally come out with recommendations to implement local environmental initiatives that shall overcome and solve the area/community problems and impact local policies.
The three teams were evaluated by a committee formed by PBDC; this committee consisted of members from several environmental NGOs to announce the winner.
The project targeted areas (Rum, Aqaba and Al- Rishah) are known for their unique biodiversity and presence of natural reserves either near or within those areas. Furthermore, Wadi Rum is a Cultural and Natural World Heritage Site.
