The project deals with ?Biomass based appropriate technologies a substitute for tribal families of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Orissa States? and will be placed in Three training cum demonstration centres, one each in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Orissa with a network of 25 grass root NGOs. The objective of the planning grant is to establish the platform for the final project to disseminate energy efficient technology and livelihood substitute to Tribal populations by establishing linkage with co financer and organizing workshops in the community. The project will create three training cum demonstration centres in three States for Introduction, testing and scaling up of biomass based technologies and development as livelihood substitute to tribal populations.
Project Activities:
? Desk review and consult GEF/SGP to look into Aarti network and finalize the list of 30 NGOs/CBOs in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Maharashtra to adopt the energy efficiency technology adoption in the areas
? Develop indicators/ basic requirements for adaptation of responsive technologies by NGOs/CBOs in the region; what minimum requirements with partners.
? Develop the project strategy of how to work with NGOs/CBOs for the technology adaptation to local conditions. What sort of MoAs (draft copy as an output) will be signed between Aarti and partner NGOs/CBOs for technology adaptation.
? Identify strategy for capacity building and knowledge management issue need to happen in the project with the partners.
? Three workshops with partner in three states to undertake and develop a common understanding in implementing the project. During the workshops template will be developed on how each NGO will submit the proposal for doing a project in partnership with Aarti as per the GEF SGP guidelines.

? Improved biomass cook stove for family and Community use.
? Biomass gasifier cook stove for family use.
? Biomass gasifier for electricity generation and thermal application
? Charcoal and char briquette from non fodder / non timber biomass.
? Sarai cooking system charcoal / char briquettes as fuel.
? Compact biogas system for electricity generation.
