Project coordination reports that the introduction of silage and fencing techniques made a lot of difference to families, who previously did not value natural pastures, and are now making use of them. Families who have adopted these techniques are better able to withstand the dry season and their animals are better nourished. This movement has attracted attention from neighboring farmers who are looking for information to be part of the project.
They also report that families who planted a bio-water system were able to maintain or increase the plants grown in the yard during the dry season.
The project does not foresee commercialization of products. However, during the whole project, hay production totaled 7,468 kg and silage production totaled 642,760 kg, which were used for animal feed, generating the economy (indirect income) equivalent to R $ 208,072.96.
All work plan activities were performed, and the goal of follow-up visits was exceeded (24 planned visits and 56 visits).
Twelve communities participate in the project (double the amount originally planned). 362 people participated directly in the project, 166 men and 196 women. Of these, 59 were young and 10 were elderly. 198 people were trained.
The project's intervention area was estimated at 3 ha, with 2 ha of agroforestry systems and 1 ha of quintals served with bio-water. It was not possible to estimate the area benefited by the production of hay and silage.
The coordination of the project reports that in the municipalities of Cajazeiras and Souza (PB) the associations are participating in political spaces and have won municipal support for infrastructure improvements, such as well drilling, tank construction and road reform.
The activities and results of the projects were disseminated through bulletins, banners, facebook, the sites of the Agroecological Crops Network and the Center for Studies in Ecological Agriculture of Sertão Paraibano.
