Vuya is well on its way to becoming a model for good governance and sustainable development in rural Fiji. This project will fully empower the VVYC to implement their community-based Ridge to Reef Natural Resource Management Plan. Approval of this funding proposal will directly result in more sustainably managed terrestrial and marine resources and alternative sources of income generation in Vuya. Through participatory management that incorporates local ecological knowledge and respects traditional governance and decision making, community members will become more responsible stewards of the vanua, not only passing down cultural knowledge, but a healthy environment for which future generations can be proud.
