the present rate of electrification is around 20% for urban areas and 1 to 2 % of the mentioned rate for rural areas; around 70% to 80% of mozambican households depend on biomass energy for their livelihoods; the main constraint is on use fuel wood and charcoal for their domestic consumption, which contributes greatly in the process of deforestation; most of the population of Manhiça practice subsistence agriculture for their livelihood; women play a vital role in search of energy for household consumption in Manhiça; it is a burden for women who walk longer distances in search of firewood and charcoal; Livaningo will contribute to mitigation of this problem though improved energy use.
