Removal of Invasive Plant Species and Forest Protection in Monte Velha
The guidelines for the forestry sector are based on the basic principles of contribution to reversing the desertification process, improving living conditions of the local populations, ecological heritage restoration, establishment and maintenance of vegetation cover, and the adoption of techniques conservation of soil, and water.

This is why this project proposal was drawn up on the basis of the priority needs of the local community, which uses the area in question. The project will respond in part to a sustainable use of the Monte Velha Forest, an important ecosystem of the park area, as well as source of income for the community of Feijoal.

The project will additionally promote the implementation of anti-soil erosion techniques, forestation, using endemic and native species on selected areas of Monte Velha. All of these activities will be implemented under the leadership of the local association and in partnership with the Park authorities. The activities planned will bring a better ecological balance in the forest perimeter in question through the recovery of a significant proportion of degraded areas due to proliferation of invasive plant species. It will also promote better living conditions for the beneficiaries and protect their main source of income.
