Community led land management & development actions for better productivity; conservation in Maoist affected forest areas of Palamau District
The purpose of the project is to develop and protect the wastelands of 10 target villages through rainwater harvesting and putting green cover over the underutilized barren lands side by side exploring opportunities for lively-hood generation for the poor people of the villages with special emphasis on women community so that people pressure over forest can be mitigated & the ecology of the adjoining areas can be restored.
The aim of the project is to reduce the surface run off and apply in-situ collection of rainwater for water harvesting and ground water recharging. This will result in checking soil and water conservation practices for local biodiversity propagation and better productivity through reclaiming land areas for schedule caste families.
Project Activities:
1. Organizing training for capacity building of village women, gender sensitization, leadership development in 30-40 SHGs in 10 villages.
2. Formation of women Self-help groups and common interest groups, organizing their training for proper functioning of SHGs, maintenance of accounts, books and records, making bank linkages etc.
3. 450 acre of undulating community lands to make them suitable for improved agricultural practices and more production through minor land leveling, step farming and soil treatment as per nature of the land.
4. Develop 30 demonstration plots of multi-tier plantation on wastelands. Grasses will be generated on the demonstration plots. Hedge plants will be grown in between trees. Grasses and hedge plants will control the flow of water and restrict soil erosion.
5. Construction of 4 ponds under MNREGA and renovation and repairing of 6 old ponds in village to collect rain water and flows down otherwise un-utilized. Promote pisciculture in the ponds leading to income generation.
6. 7000 litres per year production of organic manures using biomass wastes available in villages through vermiculture technology and their uses in the demonstration crop plots.
