Building Women Capacity for Biodiversity Conservation
Communities like Ganagleu, and Kentorkpaglay depend on the ENNR forest for their livelihood and this endangers the species in the East Nimba Natural Reserve (ENNR), and their activities also contribute immensely to the deforestation of the ENNR. Therefore, we want to prioritize improved agriculture methodology (Vegetable garden) as an alternative means of livelihood for the communities because it helps save the species in the ENNR and avoid deforestation that leads to global warming.
Women Initiative For Sustainable Development is a legally registered Liberian owned NGO specializes in empowering communities and was established in 2008 with the objective of enhancing rural communities engagement in conservation, promoting social, and economic rights of communities through empowerment and sustainable development programs to the people of Liberia. We are located in Duport Road and have implemented three successful projects in Lower Nimba and Margibi Counties respectively. All of these projects were supported by LACE.

The rational is to use Ganagleu, and Kentorkpaglay communities as one of our case studies to employ improved agriculture methodology (Vegetable garden) as an alternative means of livelihood for the communities because it helps save the species in the ENNR and avoid deforestation that leads to global warming. The specific results will be reducing pressure on the forest and its wild life which will prevent global warming that contributes to climate change thus improves the livelihood of the communities.
1.4 Description of Project Activities:
The project main activities will be to identify land space for vegetable garden within the Ganagleu, and Kentorkpaglay Communities as an alternative means of livelihood for the communities in order to save the species in the ENNR and avoid deforestation that leads to global warming. In this light, Women Initiative For Sustainable Development (WISD) personnel will meet with the members of the Ganagleu, and Kentorkpaglay communities to sell the idea of improved agriculture methodology (Vegetable garden) as an alternative means of livelihood for the communities When this idea is accepted, we will then have a workshop to explain in details the project objectives. After the workshop, WISD will then assess the communities to know the vegetable Garden needs of the Communities and come up with an appropriate resources for the below items.
