With the fast development of economy, Chongqing's motor vehicles have increased quickly. From 1997 to 2004, Chongqing civilians' vehicle possession had increased 18% annually. There were 941000 cars till 2004. After 2004, Chongqing motor vehicles even increased 40%. And till the end of 2012, Chongqing civilians' vehicle possession was up to 3.8986 million, private cars of which are 1.8337 million. In the main districts of Chongqing, there were 12 thousand taxis.
With the development of economy, the number of household air conditioner has rapidly increased. Till the end of 2012, the air conditioner users of Chongqing urban residents per 100 households have been reached 169 units and Chongqing household air conditioners reached to 12 million sets.
The emissions from both cars and air conditioners are the source of climate change.
Main problems:
1. general public doesn't realize the importance of individual participation in climate change mitigation, for example, according to an investigation, 69% of the people do not know that air conditioner?s standby power is 2W; and during rush hours in morning, 67% cars is drove by one person, and only 7% taxi by carpooling;
2.due to lacking of awareness, public doesn't take action to reduce their own GHG emissions.
Solutions/activities:
1. conduct climate change and energy conservation outreach through internet, university, middle school and primary school campaigns and visiting housekeeping centers;
2.demonstrate air-conditioner cleaning to improve energy efficiency;
3.demonstrate car pooling in Chongqing;
4. submit policy recommendation on car pool and air-conditioner cleaning to reduce GHG emissions through Chongqing committee of People's Political Consultative Conference.
Anticipated results/outcomes:
1.at least 10000 get the information about climate change and energy conservation; 1000 university students, 2000 middle school and primary school students and 500 households participated in project outreach campaign;
2. about 600 air conditioners cleaned, which save 24000kwh electricity, equal to reduce 19.2 tons of CO2 emissions;
3. at least 1000 taxis participate in car pool, which reduce 1.75million cube meters natural gas, equal to reduce 3083 tons of CO2 emissions per year;
4. policy recommendation on car pool and air-conditioner cleaning to reduce GHG emissions submitted to local government
