Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Livelihood Development of Boduoluo Village, Lijiang City
The project site is a village of Yi ethnic minority, which is located in the natural forests conservation area of upstream of Yangtze River and the buffer zone of Yulong Xueshan nature reserve in Yunnan province. The height of the community is 3000m-3200m above sea level. The average income of local people is about $326 per capita per year.

Main problems:
The project site has rich biodiversity with 1333 ha. of forests. It is also the water source protected area for Lashihai wetland. The local community has bore the cost of ecological conservation, for example, logging is not allowed and farmland has restored for forest. In addition, due to high altitude, adverse weather condition and remote location, the living standard is low.So that the pressure of conservation is high.

Rationale /Solutions
1. Develop eco-tourism and nature education to diverse local livelihood and increase local income
2. Re-vegetate ecologically fragile area
3. Conduct community biodiversity investigation
4.Develop cropfarming including medicinal plants cultivation and Chineses bee keeping
5. Promote project results through outreach, workshop and exchanging visits.

Anticipated results/outcomes
1000 ha. of forests and alpine meadow conserved by local community
community income increased 30000 RMB per year through eco-tourism
100 people obtained biodoversity knowledge
20 ha. of ecological fragile area re-vegetated.
100 medicinal plant species conserved and local income increased 15000 RMB through medicinal plants cultivation and Chinese bee keeping.
