Surveys on medicinal plants in the region and means of use among diferent communities. Elaboration of a manual containing plants with medicinal purposes serving for the quilombola tradition and cosmovision and their ways of life. Meetings with other communities meant for sharing experiences and knowledge.

The project will include 100 individuals whose gender caracteristics are equally balanced.

The project will map out the uses of traditional medicinal plants in the quilombola communities of Morro de São João, Mangano, Kalunga do Sucavão, Matão, Água Branca, São José, Redenção, Cocalinho, Dona Juscelina and Grotão. This includes 100 families actively participating in interviews with local members on plant knowledge, harvesting and the processes in utilizing and handling medicinal plants.

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

This project was born within the community and the design, execution and follow up are also going to be conducted in a participative fashion. This project will start a custom of recovering traditional knowledge in the communitoies, encouraging sustainable management practices of natural resources in the community and valuing ancestrial cultural practices.
