Working on The Land: Guaranteeing Land, Water and Food.

Recovery of degraded areas through the construction of containment, terraces, isolation areas and vegetation restoration,agroecology courses, structured properties gardeners and implemented innovative sustainable technologies such as the production of compounds, biofertilizer natural alternative pesticides, biological control and associated planting, allowing the reduction of pesticide use on crops and advance the quality of family nutrition.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

As far as production goes there will be courses conducted in the themes of agroecology and there will be technical assistance for the implementation of innovative sustainable technologies with the establishment of composts, biofertilizers, natural alternative defense mechanisms, biological control and mixed cultivation, making possible the reduction of pesticide use in crops and advances in the quality of family nutrition.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The actions of the project will build conscience in the population and neighboring communities? inhabitants, by showing the importance of the Cerrado and its capacity to generate income.

Capacity - Building Component

The areas suffering from land degradation will be recovered by constructing a water containment system, terraces in form of leveling, isolation of areas in order to allow natural regeneration and the enclosing important water sources all made possible through volunteer work by the community.

Notable Community Participation

The project ?Managing the Fiel: Guaranteeing land, water and food? proposed by AFAVE, will attend close to 30 families from the farming community of Grota do Porto e Porto Velho. Their actions in the project will involve the main issues confronted in the local community such as degradation of productive areas and water sources, and the implementation of adequate technical production involving pesticides.

Project Results

- 4 degraded areas and 1 spring in the communities of Grota do Porto and Porto Velho fenced and protected from fire and cattle trampling, about 7.5 ha;
- Construction of water harvest and storage technologies in the communities: 16 technologies built: 2 small dams, 12 basins and 2 terraces;
- 2.6 million liters of rainwater stored annually by these technologies
- Fieldwork and exchange on agroecological practices, productive planning and organic production in the community of Grota do Porto; with 39 participants, including farmers from Grota do Porto, Porto Velho, Pindaíba, Caquente, Monte Alegre, as well as communities from the municipalities of Turmalina, Minas Novas, EFA Veredinha students and CAV technicians;
- Holding of a semi-annual meeting of AFAVE with the participation of 90 members;
- Technical support to the families of the communities;
- 13 people trained in soil and cattle management and recovery of degraded areas;
- Around 05 ha managed with production based on agroecological principles
